Disputes and Risk Management

Strategic Counsel to Protect Projects and Resolve Complex Issues

Energy and infrastructure projects involve complex contractual, technical, and commercial relationships. When issues arise, they can affect project timelines, costs, and overall viability.

I advise developers, investors, contractors, utilities, and other stakeholders on identifying, managing, and resolving risks and disputes in connection with energy and infrastructure projects in Georgia and across multiple jurisdictions.

My focus is on addressing issues early, protecting project value, and resolving disputes in a manner aligned with broader business and project objectives.

Scope of Practice

I provide counsel across a range of dispute-related and risk management matters, including:

Dispute Avoidance & Risk Allocation
  • Structuring contracts to reduce the likelihood of disputes

  • Identifying and addressing risks during project development and execution

  • Advising on allocation of risk across project agreements

Project-Related Disputes
  • EPC and construction-related disputes

  • Development and joint venture disagreements

  • Commercial contract disputes involving energy and infrastructure projects

Project Execution Issues
  • Delay, disruption, and performance-related issues

  • Change order and cost overrun disputes

  • Coordination challenges among contractors, suppliers, and project participants

Strategic Resolution
  • Negotiation and settlement of disputes

  • Development of resolution strategies aligned with project goals

  • Coordination with litigation or arbitration counsel where formal proceedings are required

Key Considerations

Disputes in energy and infrastructure projects often involve:

  • Multiple contracts and parties with overlapping obligations

  • Technical and operational issues affecting performance

  • Significant financial exposure tied to delays or underperformance

  • Ongoing project considerations that require practical, forward-looking solutions

Effective resolution requires not only legal analysis, but also an understanding of how decisions affect project execution and economics.

Approach

My approach to disputes is grounded in supporting project success—not simply resolving isolated legal issues. I work with clients to:

  • Identify issues early and assess potential outcomes

  • Develop strategies that balance legal, commercial, and operational considerations

  • Resolve disputes efficiently, with a focus on minimizing disruption

  • Support decision-making in real time as issues evolve

Where formal proceedings become necessary, I represent clients directly, drawing on prior experience with complex commercial litigation at an international law firm and as a federal court law clerk, and collaborate with other counsel where doing so advances the client’s objectives.

Geographic Scope

While based in Georgia, I advise clients on dispute and risk management matters across multiple jurisdictions, particularly in connection with energy and infrastructure projects involving complex contractual arrangements.

Where appropriate, I coordinate with local or specialized counsel to address jurisdiction-specific requirements.
